Local biking programs

This morning I attended the downtown gathering for Bike Walk to Work Day at the Hennepin County Government Center. I got some information about a couple of interesting biking programs: Bike2Benefits and the Metro Transit Commuter Challenge. Bike2Benefits is co-sponsored by Metro Transit, but it is separate from the Commuter Challenge that Metro Transit is also running. The Metro Transit Commuter Challenge runs from April 1 to June 30, but Bike2Benefits runs for any consecutive eight weeks you pick until the end of the year. BOTH programs offer an opportunity for you to win prizes (laptops, iPods, gift certificates, etc).

I've signed up for both. Bike2Benefits in particular has a very nice website program. Once you have signed up, they will send you a packet of information and (if you request it) a map showing the route from your home to your workplace. Then you can use the website to keep track of your mileage, and it will tell you how much money you have saved, how much CO2 you have reduced, and how much air quality pollutants you have reduced.
